Diagnostic Manager (Liaison)
Purpose
Shapes and executes diagnostics (e.g., companion diagnostics of company product, predictive biomarker of company product, diagnosis of the disease) strategy within assigned therapeutic area(s), translating high level objectives into actionable plans and leading operational and cross-functional excellence.
Acts as the scientific and operational expert in the field, forging trusted relationships with stakeholders and supporting diagnostics adoption, education, and process improvement within specific therapy areas
Typical Accountabilities
• Translate high-level/cross-therapy diagnostics strategy into actionable strategic plans, tailored specifically for the assigned therapeutic area(s).
• Drive the implementation of diagnostics projects across the therapy area, ensuring timelines, budgets, and scientific standards are met.
• Build and maintain productive, trusted partnerships with therapy-specific stakeholders, such as pathologists, laboratory medicine professionals, scientific officers, molecular biologists, KOLs, and clinical teams, facilitating regular feedback and alignment meetings.
• Monitor and evaluate project progress, collect comprehensive data, and ensure that lab and scientific stakeholder insights are systematically used for operational and strategic optimization.
• Collaborate closely with medical, regulatory affairs, commercial, and R&D teams to ensure diagnostics projects are integrated with broader therapy objectives.
• Communicate skillfully to convey complex scientific concepts to both internal and external stakeholders and understand data interpretation—especially in the context of clinical lab results.
• Lead efforts in evidence generation and reporting, contributing to publications, best practice development, and strategy adaptation that enhance diagnostics’ clinical and business value.
• Establish and nurture daily relationships with laboratory-based scientists, especially pathologists, laboratory medicine professionals, scientific officers, molecular biologists, clinical leads, and technical staff within assigned accounts.
• Act as the “go-to” scientific resource in the field, delivering customized education, technical training, and troubleshooting support for diagnostic processes, new assays, or technology implementation.
• Consistently capture, document, and relay actionable insights and unmet needs from labs, HCPs, and the broader scientific community to inform adjustments in strategy and operations.
• Independently monitor diagnostics performance data (e.g., TAT, quality control rates, utilization, and error tracking), proactively addressing issues and collaborating with labs/scientific staff on swift remediation.
• Identify process gaps or operational bottlenecks, pursuing continuous improvement by proposing solutions and driving implementation in partnership with management.
• Conduct ongoing surveillance of scientific trends, new diagnostic technologies, and competitor activity, ensuring the broader team is alerted to changes or threats.
• Represent AZ Diagnostics as a trusted partner, upholding company values, scientific rigor, and a commitment to patient outcomes in every external interaction.
Skills
- Experience of broad range of diagnostic, commercial, or medical working at pharmaceutical company. Experience in Oncology is preferred.
- Strategic thinking, analytics, and effective project management skills
- Excellent collaboration, communication and organizational skills in working with cross-functional team
Qualifications
- BSc/MSc in biomedical sciences or related discipline.
- Scientific knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, immunology, and biochemistry.
- Familiarity with biomarker discovery, validation, and application along with knowledge of current and diagnostic technologies, such as PCR, next-generation sequencing, immunoassays, and imaging methods.
- Understand personalized and precision medicine, especially in relation to how diagnostics guide therapeutic choices.
- Additional knowledge including digital health, artificial intelligence in diagnostics, and integration with electronic health records is preferred. 3-5 years experiences in diagnostics, pathology, or scientific liaison roles.
- Proven therapy-specific and technology implementation experience.
- Strong operational, cross-functional, and innovation track record.
- Well-versed in therapy area diagnostic platforms, workflows, and emerging trends.
